Build the total
List the land package, flights, single supplement if needed, excluded meals, local transport, gratuities, optional activities, and personal spending. Typical figures: a single supplement of $600–$1,200 (roughly 25–40% of the land price); gratuities of €5–10 per person per day for the guide and €2–4 for the driver, often collected in advance; and €40–70 per person per day for excluded meals and incidentals in Western Europe (lunch €12–20, dinner €25–40). Add the cost of any independent extension. Keep a separate contingency instead of relying on a best-case total that leaves no room for changes.
Compare what the price buys
Look at hotel locations, group size, actual guiding, and usable destination days. Some major costs are small or zero: entry to St. Peter's Basilica is free, and Papal Audience tickets are free through the Prefecture of the Papal Household, while the Vatican Museums and the dome climb are ticketed. A lower fare can still be good value, but you need to know what has been omitted. A premium fare should improve the experience in concrete ways rather than rely on adjectives.
Understand the commitment
Read deposit and cancellation terms before paying. Deposits are commonly $500–$1,000 per person, final payment is commonly due 90–120 days before departure, and cancellation penalties rise in steps after that. Check when the operator confirms the departure and what happens if minimum enrollment (commonly 20–30 for a coach departure) is not reached. A "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance upgrade typically must be bought within 14–21 days of the first deposit. Bold Pilgrim has no confirmed fares yet; its sample journeys are route concepts. Final budgeting must wait for an actual written departure offer.
How much spending money should I bring?
For a Western European pilgrimage, budget €40–70 per person per day for expenses outside your package, typically lunch (€12–20), any excluded dinner (€25–40), local transport during free time, laundry, and small purchases. Add gratuities if not prepaid (commonly €5–10 per day for the guide and €2–4 for the driver) and a contingency you can afford. In Bosnia and Herzegovina the currency is the convertible mark, although euros are widely accepted in Medjugorje; Mexico uses the peso.
Carry access to more than one payment method where practical. Ask your card provider about foreign transaction charges and ATM availability, and avoid carrying the entire trip budget in cash.
