A pilgrimage does not guarantee a particular feeling or spiritual outcome. Quiet, fatigue, companionship, and ordinary worship can all be part of the experience.
Faith & pilgrimage · YOUR QUESTION, ANSWERED
Why do Catholics go on pilgrimage?
Catholics go on pilgrimage to turn a physical journey into an occasion for prayer and conversion. Some carry a particular intention; others seek thanksgiving, reconciliation, or renewed attention to God. Visiting a holy place also connects a pilgrim with the wider Church across countries and generations: Lourdes has received pilgrims since the apparitions of 1858, Fátima since 1917, and Guadalupe since 1531, where several million people still arrive on December 11 and 12 each year.
