Take the bus: Rede Expressos coaches leave Lisbon's Sete Rios terminal roughly hourly from about 6:00 a.m., take about 1.5 hours, and stop a 10-minute walk from the sanctuary, while the Fátima railway station is at Chao de Macas, about 25 km away, with only an irregular bus connection. The bus is better than the train for almost every pilgrim.

A Fátima day trip needs 8 to 10 hours door to door: 3 hours of travel and 4 to 5 hours at the sanctuary. In the Easter to October schedule there is a Mass in English at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Apparitions, so a tour arriving by late morning leaves time for Mass.

The candlelight procession follows the 9:30 p.m. Rosary nightly from Easter to October, and the last coach to Lisbon leaves before it; staying for the procession means an overnight in Fátima, a private transfer, or a Lisbon evening tour that returns after midnight.
