The underground Galilee of the Apostles beneath the Trinity basilica is reached by two ramps as well as stairs. Distance is the main effort: the esplanade is about 500 m long, and a circuit of the two basilicas, the candle pyre, and the Chapel of the Apparitions covers 1.5 to 2 km of smooth paving.
Aljustrel and Valinhos, 2 km away over sloping ground, are easier by taxi. Pilgrims who need a wheelchair for the whole visit should bring their own or rent through their hotel, since the loan chairs are for use inside the sanctuary.
