The State Department also says a U.S. passport must be valid at the time of entry with no minimum remaining validity, but the advice conflicts: the USCCB recommends at least three months’ validity from the date of return, and the WYD organizers’ packing list asks for six months. Plan for six months to satisfy airlines and any connecting countries, and renew now if a passport expires before February 2028.

Pilgrims from countries that do need a visa can request an invitation letter through the official registration system, and the organizers promised detailed visa guidance when registration opens in late October 2026. The USCCB’s own visa and K-ETA page for Seoul still read “Available TBD” as of October 2026, so parish leaders should watch both the USCCB and wydseoul.org for updates.

Travel documents are a group-leader responsibility: collect passport copies early, flag anyone with a non-U.S. passport, and build the K-ETA application into the group timeline for spring 2027.
