Medjugorje & Croatia
Pilgrim PaceModerateA settled rhythm of prayer. Room to breathe.
Settle into several days around the prayer life of St. James parish, with optional hill walks and space for rest. A short Croatian stay frames the journey. The Vatican’s permission for devotion does not affirm the supernatural character of reported apparitions.
Choose a reason to go. Keep space for it each day. Return with one practice or act of service you want to carry into ordinary life.

What Medjugorje & Croatia asks of you
Know the journey before you take it.
- Typical walking
- Approximately 1–2 miles (2–3 km) a day between lodging and St. James; the optional hill walks add more
- Terrain
- Village roads and paths; the hills are loose rock and uneven stone
- Stairs
- Few in the village; none on the hills, but the rocky path acts like irregular steps
- Hills and elevation
- Apparition Hill is a short steep climb; Cross Mountain is a longer, harder climb (optional on both)
- Standing
- Evening program involves long periods seated or standing outdoors
- Longest touring days
- Hill-walk mornings, approximately 3–4 hours; Croatia coast days are approximately 5–6 hours
- Pilgrim’s Time
- Substantial: afternoons are open, and the evening program is optional
- Accessibility
- The parish grounds are level and accessible; the hills are not. Pilgrims who skip the climbs can pray at the base or join the program at St. James.
Why this rating
The village days are gentle, which would be Easy on their own. The optional climbs of Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain are Difficult on the days you choose them. Taken as a whole, with the climbs optional, the journey is Moderate.
To be confirmed with the tour operator before departure: Hotel distance from St. James; Which Croatia stops involve old-town walking.
OPTIONAL · DAYS 10–12
Optional rest & renewal: Dalmatian coast & islands
A proposed three-day rest-and-renewal extension on the Dalmatian coast. After the parish rhythm of Medjugorje, the group settles in Split for three nights with the islands a ferry ride away. Days begin late and hold one thing: a boat to Hvar, a morning in Diocletian’s Palace, Mass at the cathedral of St. Domnius. No coach before 9 a.m.
DAY 10 · R&RMedjugorje to Split
A mid-morning cross-border transfer to Split, with lunch on the way. Settle in near the Riva promenade and walk the old town in the evening. Mass at the Cathedral of St. Domnius, the oldest cathedral building in use, for those who wish.
DAY 11 · R&RA day on Hvar
Late breakfast, then the morning catamaran to Hvar town. Time for the harbor, the Franciscan monastery and its cloister, lunch by the water, and a swim for those who want one. Return on the late-afternoon boat; the evening is free.
DAY 12 · R&RMass, the palace and an open afternoon
Morning Mass, then a short guided walk through Diocletian’s Palace and the cathedral treasury. The afternoon is open: the Marjan hill paths, the Meštrović Gallery, a café on the Riva, or rest. A proposed shared farewell dinner closes the pilgrimage.
Optional. Pilgrims may return home after day 9; the extension is priced separately.
Groups flying home from Dubrovnik may instead end with three nights there — the walled city, the island of Lokrum, and Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption — with Korčula as a day trip.
