May, June, and September are generally considered the best months to walk the Camino: Galician temperatures are mild, daylight is long, and every albergue, café, and luggage service is open, while the crowds and heat of July and August have not arrived or have passed. October is also good on the last 100 km, with more rain. The Pyrenean stages of the full Camino Francés can hold snow from November to April.

Reservations are needed in the busiest months. From June through September on the Sarria to Santiago stretch, and throughout Holy Year 2027, private rooms and private albergues commonly book out days to weeks ahead; municipal albergues take no bookings and fill by early afternoon. Pilgrims who want a private room in July or August should reserve each night in advance or use an agency that holds rooms.

Feast dates concentrate crowds: July 25, the feast of St. James, fills Santiago, and Holy Week brings Spanish walkers onto the last 100 km.
