Can I attend an English-language Mass in Rome?

Yes. St. Patrick’s, the Catholic American parish at Via Boncompagni 31, celebrates Mass in English Monday to Friday at 6:00 p.m., a Saturday Vigil at 6:00 p.m., and Sunday Masses at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.; San Silvestro in Capite, the Pallottine church for English speakers near the Corso, also has regular English Masses. St. Peter’s Basilica lists no English-language Mass on its official schedule, so do not assume a major basilica has an English service at the hour you visit. A Catholic Mass in Italian is also an option for many pilgrims, since the structure of the liturgy is the same.

St. Patrick’s publishes its holiday schedule for 2026: All Saints on Saturday October 31 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday November 1 at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.; the Immaculate Conception on Monday December 7 at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday December 8 at 10:00 a.m.; Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m. (family Mass) and 7:30 p.m.; Christmas Day at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. Santa Susanna is no longer the American parish; its website redirects to St. Patrick’s.

Distinguish a public Mass from a private group celebration arranged for a pilgrimage. Language and celebrant details should be confirmed in writing for an organized departure.

Which Rome churches offer Mass in English?

Two parishes in central Rome celebrate Mass in English every day: St. Patrick's on Via Boncompagni, the American parish near Via Veneto, and San Silvestro in Capite, the English-speaking Pallottine parish beside Piazza San Silvestro. St. Peter's Basilica also schedules Masses in English at certain times, usually announced for pilgrim groups, and English Masses are added at the papal basilicas during major feasts. Weekday times change seasonally, so check each parish's current schedule. Most other Roman churches celebrate in Italian, which visitors may attend and receive Communion at in the usual way.
