Train is the simplest option for an independent pilgrim. Polish timetables are published on Portal Pasażera, the national search run by the rail infrastructure company, and tickets for PKP Intercity trains can be bought on its site or app in English; regional Polregio trains are slower and cheaper. Exact times are not published by the shrine and change with each timetable, so check the day's departures rather than planning around a remembered time. Częstochowa has two stations; Częstochowa Główna (sometimes shown as Osobowa) is the one for Jasna Góra, and from it Aleja Najświętszej Maryi Panny leads directly to the monastery gates.
Coaches from Kraków's bus station next to the railway station are an alternative; journey time is similar and they arrive at the Częstochowa bus station near the railway station. Organized day tours from Kraków exist and bundle the transfer with a guide, but they give only a few hours at the shrine. The Jasna Góra Information Centre books its own guided tours in foreign languages for groups that come by any means.
The page on combining Kraków and Częstochowa sets out the choice between a long day trip and an overnight stay. The deciding factor is the icon: a day-tripper arriving late morning finds it veiled at noon, while a pilgrim who sleeps in Częstochowa can be at the 6:00 a.m. unveiling and the 9:00 p.m. Appeal. The monastery has two car parks, at ul. Klasztorna for cars and coaches and a smaller one at ul. 7 Kamienic.
