Hours change by season. From April to October the museum opens 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday and Wednesday to Thursday, noon to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday to Sunday; from November to March it closes at 4:00 p.m. every day, with last entry 2:45 p.m. It closes on New Year's Day, Christmas Eve and Day, Easter Sunday and All Saints' Day. A guided visit takes about 70 minutes and an audio-guided one about 60; audio guides are offered in English and ten other languages, while live guided tours are in Polish unless an English guide is arranged in advance through rezerwacja@domjp2.pl. Online tickets are sold at bilety.domjp2.pl.

The museum fills the apartment house where Karol Wojtyła was born on May 18, 1920, beside the basilica on the market square where he was baptized; the page on what pilgrims see in Wadowice covers both.

By public transport, trains from Kraków Główny to Wadowice and buses from the Kraków bus station both run through the day; the museum says to get off at the Lwowska Street stop or the bus station, or at the railway station, and walk to the square. Timetables are on Portal Pasażera for trains; neither the museum nor the rail site publishes fixed journey times, so check the day's departures. Groups often pair Wadowice with Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, the Marian and Passion sanctuary 15 km (9 miles) away where Wojtyła prayed as a boy, on the same half day.
