A papal Mass is not the Wednesday general audience; the audience is a catechesis and blessing, not a liturgy. Papal Masses in Rome are held in St. Peter's Basilica, in St. Peter's Square for the largest feasts and canonizations, and at St. John Lateran for some ordinations and diocesan events. The Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff publishes the calendar through the Holy See Press Office; the spring 2026 release listed each date, time and church.
Lay pilgrims request tickets for a specific celebration on the Prefecture's portal (eventi.pontificalisdomus.va, reached from the vatican.va page on participation in audiences and celebrations). Requests open once the calendar is out, and the largest Masses are allocated early. Tickets are collected in Rome before the event; the confirmation tells you where and when. Priests and deacons who wish to concelebrate apply separately through the Office for Liturgical Celebrations, not through the Prefecture.
A ticket is not a seat guarantee for square Masses; arrive two to three hours early and pass security. The Sunday Angelus at noon in the square needs no ticket. For the audience itself, see how-do-i-attend-a-general-audience-with-pope-leo-xiv.
